Hi everyone. My name is Priya, speech therapist, daughter, avid reader, coffee lover, lion, friend, aunty (IYKYK) and overall nice girl.
Welcome to my blog
After 18 years in the field of speech therapy, I have finally succumbed to the pressures of starting a speech therapy blog. But a blog with a twist. I hope to not only spread awareness about speech therapy, communication and helping individuals find their voices but to also tell some stories along the way.
Stories of hope, inspiration and courage. Stories filled with joy, laughter and much humor too. We should start the first story, of why I chose to be in this complex, awe inspiring profession of speech therapy.
With my Mum
I’ve always been fascinated with health sciences. My mum is a nurse and becoming an allied health professional was no surprise to anyone. However, speech therapy had a certain pull; to be able to help someone find their voice in whichever version and manner is nothing short of magical and being a part of that process, however big or small is something that no amount of money could ever buy you.
With my bestie Nerisha
I chose to be a speech therapist so I could help individuals of all ages communicate better with their friends and loved ones. The truth though, is that my clients have helped me. I am a richer person by learning how to communicate without words and really celebrate the small wins with all my clients and their families.
I am a proud member of the East Coast Lions Club
If you’re reading this wondering if this is the career for you, it is; if you appreciate the little things (every little improvement is a big win), if you’re passionate about people and if you want to make a difference.
If you’re reading this wondering if your loved one would benefit from speech therapy services, the simple answer is, yes. The complex answer requires a call to your nearest speechie who will undoubtedly give you the full 101 on how speech therapists weave our magic to improve not just word finding problems and speech clarity, but better engagement, relationships and quality of lives.
